Refiners fire
Pro 30:5,6  Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Sin, (distrust and unbelief towards God) is like a cancer hiding in the heart of a person. Left unchecked and unchallenged it will eventually spread until it destroys that person. God is the author of life and it is only through Him that we can live and move and have our being. God does not want any of His creation to be destroyed so:

God sent his Word to
Reveal sin, (distrust and unbelief towards God) in the heart of mankind
and
Remove it from the heart and save the individual from destruction.

Without a mediator and a propitiation for sin, mankind will hide from the commandment or try to remove it from their company because of the condemning nature of sin. The commandment itself is true and holy and just, but the sin (distrust and unbelief towards God) in the heart of man will fight the commandment and try and destroy it or remove it from hearing it, in order to remain in darkness. The commandment exposes the sin(distrust and unbelief towards God) in the heart, not in order to destroy the sinner but to bring them unto the savior.

Jesus is the great Physician sent to take away the sin of the world. But until the world comes to the physician and lets the cancer be exposed and allows Him to work on them, the sin (cancer) remains in the heart and eventually destroys the person. God is not willing that any should perish and continually calls out to the sinner to come to the great Physician for healing.

Mankind reacts by shrinking back into darkness because they love the darkness due to the rotting cancerous nature of sin that works in their heart. It is only through the convincing Power of the Holy Spirit that man can be drawn to the Savior and be delivered from the bondage of death that is working in their heart.

God has equipped us with the Gospel and the Power of the Holy Spirit to go and call man back into fellowship with God. Not to condemn the world for their distrust and unbelief towards God, but to bring the world into salvation and fellowship with God.

God's Word is Pure (Prov 30:5) – refined to it's purest form. Without impurities and not weakened of strength. It can be relied upon and believed at face value.
  • God's word alone is refined and in its purest form, when we add anything to God's Word we add impurities and weaken the Word of God. Psa 12:6, Psa 19:8, Psa 119:140

This is what Satan did in the garden when he called God's word into question;
Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And it is what Adam and Eve did.
Gen 3:2,3 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

This is called sin and it introduced death into the Spirit of Man. When they changed God's Word they became impure and defiled in their heart. Their relationship with God was damaged by unbelief and distrust. They no longer had a simple pure trust relationship with God. And down through the ages that distrust and unbelief has grown into what it is today.

Metal is refined until all impurities are removed leaving only the purest metal. In the earliest of times this was done by fire. In the same way God sent Jesus Christ, who was the carrier of the Holy Spirit and fire of God to refine us from all of our impurities. Or to remove from us the unbelief and distrust in our hearts toward God. He came to wash away all of our sin.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

The Word became flesh and came to purify us from all sin. He came to remove from us the impurities of this unbelief and restore the broken relationship of distrust between God and man. Now through faith in Him or by believing His word, we can be restored back into right fellowship with God.

  • The Word of God is not only pure but it purifies us of all of our impurities.
Joh 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

In order to receive this purging and cleansing we must let "God be true but every man a liar that we might be justified in thy sayings and overcome when we are judged.
Rom 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Even if it convicts us we do not hide from the Word or try to get rid of the Word but we with open face look boldly into it and let it not only cleanse us but change us. For we know that in any area where we have fallen short of the commandment, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. He Himself became the propitiation for our sin. Or in other words God punished Him for our unbelief and distrust. Now we are free to believe and trust God again.

Conclusion: Do not shrink back from the Word of God. Even if you are guilty of the sin it is convincing you of. But come out into the light and allow Jesus Christ the refiner wash away all of your sin. He will not condemn you but will cleanse you from all sin and restore you to a place of righteousness. Only He can take away and remove the sin that is in the heart of a person.

Mal 3:1-3 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
